Deductions (Monthly)
* Income tax is a simplified estimate of the simplified withholding table, which varies by dependents and deductions. Reconciled at year-end settlement.
The take-home pay calculator deducts the four major social insurances (national pension, health insurance, long-term care, employment insurance) and income tax from your gross annual salary to estimate the monthly amount that actually lands in your account. It applies 2026's latest rates.
What gets deducted
National pension (4.75% employee share), health insurance (3.595%), long-term care insurance (13.14% of the health insurance premium), and employment insurance (0.9%) are withheld, along with income tax based on the simplified withholding table and local income tax (10% of income tax). Tax-exempt pay (such as meal allowances) is excluded from both insurance and tax calculations.
What increases your take-home pay
The more tax-exempt items you have (meal allowance, driving allowance, etc.) and the more dependents you claim, the less tax is withheld, raising your take-home pay. Try changing the number of dependents and the monthly tax-exempt amount to compare.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my take-home pay less than salary ÷ 12?
Because the four social insurances and income tax are deducted from your pre-tax monthly pay. The higher your salary, the higher your tax rate, so the deduction ratio grows too.
Can I get money back at year-end settlement?
The income tax withheld monthly is only an estimate from the simplified table, so it's reconciled at year-end settlement once your actual deductions are applied — resulting in a refund or additional payment.
Do employer and employee split the four insurances 50/50?
In principle, yes — national pension, health insurance, long-term care, and employment insurance are all split evenly between employer and employee. The calculator shows only the employee's share.
How much of a meal allowance is tax-exempt?
Up to 200,000 won per month is tax-exempt, and that amount is excluded from both the social insurance and income tax calculations.
Why does a freelancer's take-home pay (3.3% withholding) differ from an employee's?
Employees have the four insurances withheld at source, while freelancers only have 3.3% income tax withheld and separately bear social insurance themselves as regional (self-employed) subscribers.
As salary rises, what happens to the take-home ratio?
Because income tax is progressive, the tax share grows faster than salary rises, so take-home pay tends to grow at a slower rate than salary.
